Well, the baby shower is under way, so I can now post the secret project in its entirety...
This is the picture my niece posted on Facebook, of the bedding for her baby-to-be.
The theme I went for: Butterflies, pink and purple. The result:
I would say that the last picture represents the colors most realistically. I love a good pattern that looks harder than it actually is. This was really fun to knit and watch the butterflies appear.
Stats: Pattern is "Flutterby", a freebie on Ravelry. Yarn is Plymouth Encore.

This is so pretty, Margaret! I bet it will be much appreciated.
Oh! I like those squares. Very cute.
It's totally adorable and sweet looking. Good job on it!!! :)
thanks, everyone. This pattern is a keeper. Quick, and cute.
what a wonderful and heirloom quality gift
Well, I was there when it was unveiled, and everyone seemed pretty amazed by it when the wrapping came off. It has already taken up a place of honor up on the crib in the baby's room. Looks great and there does seem to be a butterfly theme going on. Good work! But "easy"? Doubt it. Not in my world.
